Tam's Cafe in Đông Hà offers more than your typical spot for coffee and light bites—it's a hub where practical hospitality meets a local traveler’s needs. Situated on Đường Bà Triệu, this place blends a cafeteria vibe with guest house comforts and a reliable tour agency all under one roof. Visitors often find themselves stopping by not just for a caffeine lift but to arrange insightful day trips, particularly around the DMZ and war tunnels nearby.

The atmosphere here is straightforward and welcoming, striking a balance between casual and functional. It’s the kind of place where you can start your day with a fresh breakfast—locals and travelers alike note the clean, fresh flavors—and then seamlessly book excursions. The staff are notably friendly and helpful, often going out of their way to arrange pick-ups or drop-offs around town, which adds a layer of convenience that many independent travelers appreciate.

Tour-wise, Tam's has built a reputation for knowledgeable guides with strong English skills, sharing vivid, personal stories about the region’s complex history. The tours focus on authentic sites connected to the Vietnam War, not just the typical surface-level stops, which tends to attract visitors interested in history beyond the standard narratives.

For those planning to visit, mornings are ideal for breakfast and initial tour bookings, while afternoons seem popular for returning to relax with fresh smoothies and coffee after exploring the city or returning from excursions. The guest house side maintains a clean and practical environment, appealing to travelers looking for simple comfort with easy access to local insights.

Overall, Tam's Cafe fits well into Đông Hà’s rhythm as a reliable local spot catering mainly to tourists eager for a mix of comfort, good food, and contextualized travel experiences. If you value practical services combined with friendly faces and a touch of local history, this is a spot that likely feels like a helpful base rather than just a quick stop.

If you can spare some time, you should definitely book a DMZ tour with Tam and insist on going with Hoa. He was a veteran at the age of 18 and bursts with first-hand experiences from the places you'll visit. Unforgettable experience!

Tams Cafe was amazing! We had one of the nicest, freshest breakfasts we've had in Vietnam so far. The DMZ tour was captivating. The guide spoke excellent English and was kind and enthusiastic. All staff at Tams were super friendly and helpful, and collected us and dropped us at our hostels for free! We went back to the cafe for smoothies which were fresh and well valued! Definitely come here if travelling in Vietnam!!

Mr Tam offers great tours to the DMZ and the underground tunnels, dug out during the war to house entire villages. Mr Hoa is a great guide, willing to explain the history and to discuss the present and past of this heroic country and its people.

The location is not exactly where it said on the map. Ask a local and they will guide you. This was a great choice. Tam’s and others speak English and have virtually everything A traveler need or wants. Cleanest hostel yet. Food and coffee spectacular.

As my hotel wasn't able to organize a DMZ tour, I found the website of Tam's Cafe and within 5 minutes the tour for the next day was organized. Who is expecting that there are still thousands of relicts of the war is wrong. Even more important it is to have a great tour guide as Mr. Luong who gave a thousand of insights and informations about the war time and knew the places to go to. Finally, it was a great choice for a cheap price (especially compared to other tours starting from Hue) 40$ including transport via motorbike, entrance fees and 7 hours a great guide only for me.

Coffee unfortunately closed but homestay is still open. Clean and affordable rooms. Amazing welcome by Tam, was truly happy to meet him. Dong Ha is a nice city with a very joyful vibe, not far from the DMZ. Definitely worth a stay

Our family arranged a full day tour of the DMZ through Tam's Cafe all via What's App. We weren't able to stay at his homestay because of local flooding but he recommended local accommodation, and we spent a very educational day with our tour guide Hoa. We saw so many key sites, and learned so.kuch about the war. The perspective offered was factual and unbiased, presenting facts about battles, the political stage, and the life of civilians in the Dong Ha area during this era. Hoa even shared some personal memories with us, and was very open and patient with all of our questions (which I'm sure we're not always well informed!). He even offered to stop at an ATM for us, picked up some treats from his favorite bakery, and helped us purchase train tickets. For anyone looking for an experience with the DMZ and local history, Tam's Cafe us a must!

We found out about the place online and we decided to call. They organized for us an amazing tour with Mr. Hoa in the DMZ. Probably one of the best tour I had in Vietnam. Mr Hoa is very knowledgeable and he replied the thousand of questions that I had in my mind about the Vietnam war. Beautiful experience that I would suggest to everyone. May people just go to Hue and than they book a tour back from there to see the area when it is so much easier to just stop in Dang Ha and do everything from there. The Cafe by itself is quite good. The room very clean and the food good.
